London Fashion Week - day 5

EVERYDAY of London Fashion Week is a blasted debate or dilemma for show-goers, especially those who are keen on making a sartorial statement. Paquin, aka the sidewalk playboy, from TVsidewalk, is excited to talk to them about their personal styles and inspiration.

Paquin: I could never love another London Fashion Week show-goer's outfit, as much as I love Suzanna's. Love at first sight is not a myth. Everyone thinks her Prada high boots are trousers. She gravitates towards pieces that are edgy and classic - vintage coat, Chloe bag, Balenciaga jacket

It's all about your delectable outfit; a fine example of sartorial excellence. The designer who create it, is a true fashion-demi-god, who deserves an award

The clutch by Zara maybe small, but it's beauty is massive. Other key elements are vintage belt and New Look necklace.

I love dressing up with a passion. So I would't bother attending if all I had to wear were pyjamas...That would not be fun......a huge sale was on, so I bought quite a few other outfits

The Anna Wintour admirer, who works for Jamaque and is a huge fan of Celine, obviously, styles the most gorgeous BCBG jacket with Celine bag and shoes, vintage shirt, and Nicole Miller trousers. Oh, she gets her sartorial inspiration from the fashionable pedestrians who walk the streets of New York.  Her style is fabulous, I adore it, with my whole heart, ALOT more than I should.

LONDON COLLEGE OF FASHION hosts an exhibition of Coco Chanel. A palpably intrigued er Styles Rocker, formerly; the sidewalk playboy, found the invitation irresistible. The outstanding portraits were created by Chanel's beloved friend Marion Pike. The latter's daughter and archivist, Jeffie Pike Durham, was kind enough to lend the creations to the college for this showcase, which will move to Milan in December.

A scintilating self-portrait by colourist extroadinaire, Marion Pike - 1982

Marion was a patron of Chanel's creations long before they first met. The latter had requested, the former, a colourist, to do sketches of her while she worked in her Paris studio.



Marion was fashionably early for the appointment in 1967. However, Chanel kept her waiting for a long time. When she finally emerged to the foyer, she observed Marion sketches of her while she was doing some fittings.

Chanel undid her scarf and placed it around Marion's neck and remarked, ‘You are a real artist......This is the beginning of our friendship.' A strong and immediate bond and artistic friendship, came into being.

The 'friends forever' silk scarf Chanel gave to Marion. Simply beautiful. Be jealous. Fawn over it.

Marion produced about 13 portraits of Chanel working in her studio. In return, Chanel, designed chic and luxurious clothing for both Marion and her daughter Jeffie. On display was a letter Chanel wrote to Marion, informing her that her dress was ready.

Spring/Summer 1969 CHANEL wool suit. HOT! HOT is inadequate. Blazing inferno. So damn cute. Cutest in the world. I'd love a calendar with it. Jeffie found this so irresistible, she use  her savings to order one for herself.



However, the fabric was scarce. Chanel kept the sample for herself. When she heard that poor Jeffie had fallen in love - with the chic suit, she gave it to her, along with other prized pieces from her personal wardrobe; a silk blouse, faux pearl necklace and belt.

Jeffie, who met Chanel in 1968, said 'it was an unforgettable and affirmative experience.'

CHANEL Spring/Summer 1969 brocaded, silk lame ensemble, with metal braid. So luxurious. This does not need to be accessorized to look hot.It's not easy being so ridiculously good looking. On the sidewalk, it would attract constant wolf whistles. Pedestrians would try to touch it, throw money at it. It would get tiresome, tedious....Marion wore this youthful ensemble with indo-Chinese overtones, only once. Jeffie wore it with glee afterwards...

Chanel came from a impoverished and unloved background, whereas, Marion had a privileged and nurtured upbringing.

Before her death, Chanel destroyed her personal documents; letters, telegrams etc. However, Marion kept everything in order. Later, Jeffie archived them. Incidentally, Jeffie's daughter, Marion Wesson, is today an artist in her own right. Please support her work.
